Simple composite bonding is routinely done without freezing, and is most often reported as painless. Because there is minimal to no tooth removal, any discomfort usually comes from brief sensitivity during surface preparation, or from warmth while the material is light cured. Freezing is always available, and is recommended for larger cases or where existing restorations must be removed first.

How long bonding lasts depends on your bite, grinding habits, smoking and staining foods. Published follow-up studies of bonding used to close front tooth gaps report good durability over five years, though individual results vary considerably. One practical advantage over porcelain: if bonding chips or stains, it can usually be repaired or repolished rather than replaced.

Bonding is more conservative, usually completed in one visit, and removes little or no healthy tooth. Veneers require more tooth preparation, but porcelain holds its colour over time better than composite does. A randomized trial comparing the two for gap closure found no significant difference in survival. Which one suits you depends on how much change you want and how many teeth are involved, and we will tell you honestly which we would recommend for your case.

Sometimes. If teeth are significantly misaligned, moving them first can allow a more conservative result with less material and less tooth reduction. In other cases bonding alone achieves the goal in a single visit where orthodontics would take a year. It depends on the spacing, the proportions of your teeth and your bite, all of which we measure before recommending anything. Whitening also comes first if you want it, since composite and porcelain cannot be whitened once placed.

Cosmetic treatment is quoted per case, because no two are the same. The number of teeth involved, the materials used and the amount of planning required all affect the fee.
